Security and warmth for Joelle

Moving into her new community housing at BaptistCare Wingara Hamlet in the Blue Mountains changed everything for Joelle.

Joelle’s new home was one of 15 units released by BaptistCare in partnership with the NSW Government, under the $1bn Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF), during May 2019.

These units join 39 existing units onsite, and are specifically designed for people over fifty-five and in need of affordable housing.

“As part of a greater community, I feel very secure. I know that I have the added support from BaptistCare, if needed, as I get older and that makes a big difference, it brings much peace to me,” says Joelle.

“This new unit in Springwood is completely functional in the way of the size of the room and grounds. It’s nice. It’s extremely clean, and very well designed. I’ve settled in and I am very comfortable.”

Belinda Daly, Manager at BaptistCare Wingara Hamlet, said the units had filled quickly, indicating the high level of demand in the Mountains.

“The units are designed for ageing in place, and attached to an existing village, with a community centre and all the extra services on hand. Each unit is gorgeous; brand new and spacious, with an open-plan kitchen and dining area. Our residents have a comfortable bedroom, reverse cycle air-conditioning and heating and beautiful accessible bathrooms,” said Belinda.
