Tara’s Angels continues

On 28 February 2015, Tara Costigan, a mother of three and a BaptistCare staff member, was brutally murdered by her ex-partner. Her violent death from domestic violence sent shock waves through her family, friends, the local ACT community and BaptistCare’s workforce.

In response to her tragic death, calls for change became the inspiration for Tara’s family to establish the Tara Costigan Foundation (TCF), and they dedicated four years of campaigning on behalf of victims of domestic violence.

With the support of BaptistCare HopeStreet, TCF established Tara’s Angels, a case worker service in the ACT that supports women in their recovery from the trauma of domestic and family violence. The service provides up to two years of post-crisis support, helping women to connect with local agencies and services, and rebuild their life.

In December 2018, TCF concluded its activities however BaptistCare HopeStreet continued its commitment to delivering this vital service in honour of Tara and her family, and as we make every effort to end the cycle of abuse and build safer families.
